Stanley Brodkin Maditsi Attorneys Inc (SBM) has been a leader in the legal collections sector for over 30 years. We provide our clients with an award winning, highly effective, value added legal collection service on a commision basis. We have consistently delivered excellent results, especially in Bank collections, where we are recognised as top performers.
Through our National legal footprint and established relationships with attorneys to act as our correspondents nationwide, we are able to offer a complete collection solution from soft collections to judgment, with coverage throughout South Africa.
Where no legal action is required our legal identity ensures that we outperform non-attorney collection agencies as debtors understand that we are equipped with the credible threat of legal action.
Our innovative call centre approach, which runs in parallel with the legal process, is actioned by an experienced and skilled legal team. Our success rests on our advanced technology and customised software systems staffed by well trained, dedicated and highly incentivised collection agents. Our firm invests heavily in the work entrusted to us. Tailored strategies includes tracing, sms, email, telephonic collections campaigns and legal process.

Capacity and Resources
We are a team of 50 staff members working over 40,000 files and covering a broad range of products across different placements from pre-legal to post write-off. We have capacity to take on additional recoveries.
IT Infrastructure Overview
We use Excalibur, Debtcol, E4 and Winlaw collections software which has been customised to our needs. We use a power dialler from Realconnect with real time call monitoring and recording. Tracing is done both externally and internally using CPB, XDS, ITC Transunion and Compuscan. Data is backed up daily and stored in the cloud.
We have developed customised reporting portfolio segmentation and campaign generation using Python and it's data science library PANDAS.
Overall Strategy (Legal Collections)
SBM has access to the latest technology and has always hired excellent Attorneys, para-legals and call centre agents. Our team is well trained and kept up to date with best practice.
Strategy Initiatives, Targets and measures include:
- In-house and external bulk tracing of entire portfolio undertaken.
- Power dialler software that increases productivity of collectors and improves collections.
- Intensive SMS and e-mail campaigns undertaken.
- Erratic and lost player analysis undertaken to ensure collectors remain accountable to reactivate these lost payers.
- Ongoing recruitment drive for qualified, motivated and professional collectors undertaken.
- Monthly collector performance reviews conducted.
- Collectors are target driven and highly incentivised and their monthly salary is determined to a large extent
by the collections that they personally achieve. A team bonus is paid depending on ranking achieved on the banks panel.
- Collection targets are set for collectors which are challenging but importantly realistic and achievable.
- Collections software produces daily collector productivity reports indicating number of calls made,
PTP's made, strike rates and collections received.
- These measures of both the individual and the team promote personal accountability and team work.
These measures align the interests of our agents with the firm and with our clients.
Customised reporting Capabilities
Our flexible collections and management software as well as Python reports allows us complete flexibility in reporting to our clients according to their requirements, including Vintage analysis.
BEE and Fidelity Fund Certificates
SBM Attorneys are registered with the Legal Practice Council and hold valid Fidelity Fund Certificates. We are a black owned certified Level 2 B-BBEE Contributor and follow a policy of Employment Equity by sourcing the majority of staff from previously disadvantaged communities. As part of Mandela Day this year, 2023, our firm will again be supporting Impilo, a registered Non-Profit organisation, based in Fairvale Johannesburg. Impilo offers child protection and adoption services to about 150 children who are orphaned, vulnerable or abandoned.
